A Diving Sensation: Tioman Island
Location: Off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, within the Coral Triangle.
Biodiversity:
- Home to over 500 species of reef-building corals.
- Features 52% of all Indo-Pacific reef fishes.
- A plethora of critters, including nudibranchs, scorpionfish, pipefish, octopus, cuttlefish, frogfish, eels, and various shrimps and crustaceans.
Diver Suitability: Caters to all levels, from beginners with tranquil sites to experienced divers seeking drifts and surge sites.
Dive Sites of Tioman
1) Tiger Reef
- Submerged pinnacle between Labas and Sepoi.
- Average depth: 15 meters (50 feet).
- Known for an "explosion of color" from kaleidoscopic soft coral coverage.
- Strong currents can be present, attracting large schools of jacks, mackerels, yellow fin barracuda, fusiliers, and rainbow runners.
- Look for angelfish, moray eels, stingrays, pufferfish, nudibranchs, and white tip reef sharks.
- Shallow site off a small island.
- Features a mix of bommies and boulders with brightly colored soft corals, anemones, and hard corals.
- Frequently spotted highlights include hawksbill turtles, blue-ring angelfish, batfish, titan triggerfish, blue spotted stingrays, and a "multitude of nudibranchs."
2) KM Sipadan & Sawadee Wrecks:
- An artificial reef created by the sinking of a former Royal Navy warship, KM Sipadan, in 2012.
- Connected by lines to two nearby Thai fishing boat wrecks, known as Sawadee.
- Maximum depth: 30 meters (100 feet).
- Attracts fish life, including schools of juvenile fish.
- Look for nudibranchs, stonefish, flatheads, lionfish, moray eels, and frogfish.
3) Tumok (Tanjung Gemuk):
- A small half-island in front of Paya Bay.
- Known for its resident turtles and barracudas.
- Currents vary, offering a range from a leisurely swim to an exciting drift.
4) North Point:
- A beautiful drift dive along the side of Tioman Island.
- A sloping fringing reef site, bottoming out at 18 meters (60 feet).
- Features plenty of coral bommies, a garden of sea whips, and large coral-adorned boulders.
- Highlights include different species of lionfish, moray eels, titan triggerfish, sweetlips, and spiny lobsters.
Best Time to Travel & Dive
- Diving Season: February 1st to early November.
- Monsoon Season: Tioman is mostly closed from November to January.
- February - March: Mating season of the Pharaoh Reef Cuttlefish.
- March - May & September - November: Best visibility, averaging 15 to 30 meters.
- June - August: Summer season with visibility dropping to 8 to 12 meters, but diving is still considered great. Currents are generally mild.
- Participants must be aged 13 and above and have valid diving certification to participate in this activity
- Bring along your usual swim / beach wear, towel, sun lotion and some insect repellent
- The diving season for Tioman Island starts on 1st February and ends by early November. Tioman is pretty much closed during the monsoon season (November - January)
- Please contact the attraction at least four (4) day before to schedule your visit

Diving Pre-requisites:
- Must present valid scuba diving certification
- A B&J Refresher Dive is required if a diver has less than 20 logged dives or has not been diving in the past 12 months
- If required, B&J Diving Centre will convert one of your leisure dives to a refresher dive and add a minimal surcharge of just RM 50.00 to your package rate
Prohibitions & Limitations:
- This activity is not recommended for those with medical conditions (high blood pressure, epilepsy, etc.), pregnant women or seniors
- Although not mandatory, it is recommended that you purchase accident and/or travel insurance before participating in this activity
- Guests are required to sign a liability waiver form that informs them of the risks of the activity
- This is a FlexBasic Ticket.

- Show the QR Code on your phone to staff. (No printout is required)
- All tickets are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase.
- You do not need to print the ticket, simply present the QR code via your phone.
- In order to redeem your ticket, please proceed to the attraction’s counters.
- MyKad or MyKid must be presented at the attraction for purchase of Malaysian - with MyKad type tickets.
